So today is the birthday of my most favorite artist of all time: Eminem.
I’ve been listening to Eminem since my sixth grade of primary school, and he has helped me (maybe) more than anything he could ever imagine. I started learning English in my first year of junior high because I wanted to understand what he’s saying in his lyrics. Yep. My English skills started with Eminem, look where I am now.
When I was 13 or so, I bought The Eminem Show which was sold at approximately $2. I listened carefully to his strong lyrics, got to know more and more about his life, his past, his feelings… I instantly fell in love with his words.
For some people, Eminem is just a loud musician, yapping and swearing and spreading hatred. However, despite all the swearing and loud music, I love him dearly. Eminem has been through a LOT, that’s why he’s so harsh; he’s not always about hating. Through Eminem’s songs Em taught me to be strong. To stand up for your own values. To be brave enough even though the world seems to be against you. To get back up and fight when you’re knocked down.
Especially with him showing up again after a few years of hiding away. Eminem reminds me of that doll that will keep on getting back up again no matter how many times you punch it down. 🙂
…There was one time in my life, when I’ve used up all my savings and still couldn’t find a job, I was so stressed out and afraid of my future and not sure what to do. I spent a whole night weeping and listening to his “Not Afraid”. It gave me strength, knowing that he’s out there, living, breathing, fighting. And he said I can take his hands, walk together through the storms, whatever weather, cold or warm. Well. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for his existence. He gave me a reason to get back up again: If he can do it, I can do it too. If he can survive, why can’t I?
Eminem is (one of) the biggest inspiration for me, whether he knows it or not. He’s some kind of a life force, a teacher, a friend. Me, I’ll always be his listener. 🙂
So happy birthday Eminem. May you’ll stand strong for many more years. Also, thanks for being such an inspiration and helped me through tough times. I know you probably get this everyday, but I’m your biggest fan.
PS. We should be together too.
